Challenge

APOLO OS runs on a relatively small hardware display, requiring careful consideration of legibility, interaction density, and physical operating conditions. At the same time, the system needed to align with professional DMX and industrial lighting standards, where users expect precision, speed, and predictable workflows.

Existing references for embedded DMX lighting operating systems were limited, making it necessary to bridge highly technical control with a clear and approachable interface language.

Solution

Small-Screen Optimized Interface

The UI was designed specifically for constrained displays, using high-contrast layouts, scalable typography, and clear iconography. Critical parameters are prioritized visually.

Industry-Aligned Lighting Workflows

Interaction flows follow established DMX and virtual production lighting conventions. Controls for intensity, color temperature, and RGBACL gamut are exposed with precision, ensuring the system feels familiar and trustworthy to professional users.

Modular Navigation System

The interface adopts a modular, layered structure that allows users to move between modes and settings without losing context. Presets, real-time feedback, and quick-access controls support rapid iteration during setup and live adjustment.

Scalable OS Framework

APOLO OS is designed as a scalable system. The underlying UI framework supports future firmware updates and feature expansion while maintaining consistency across the experience.

APOLO OS: DMX Lighting

APOLO OS is a professional DMX lighting operating system designed for APOLO RGBACL lights, widely used in film, photography, and virtual production workflows. This project involved designing the user interface and interaction flows of APOLO OS from 0 to 1, translating complex lighting control into a reliable, efficient on-device experience for professional users.
